Studio Tour | Naomi Hudson-Knapp
Last week I was sitting in my friend Naomi Hudson-Knapp's studio at golden hour and I asked if she could talk me through differences in the work she created when she lived in New York and the work she began creating when she moved to LA. Because there was a definitive change in style.
She said when she was in New York she never felt there was quite enough space, so she created a vastness in her work. Then, when she moved to LA, she felt like everyone was too far spread out, operating in their own sphere and never intersecting with one another, so she began to incorporate a nesting in her work. Instead of the constellation-esque pieces she had been creating before, she began pulling all the ink into one circular form. (I'm butchering her words, but you get the general idea...)
Naomi is such a thoughtful artist, so I'm looking forward to joining her at her Open Studio in Culver City this Saturday for a conversation about her work, the inks she makes from natural elements, how her art practice has evolved, and what's next for her. I'd love, love to see some of you there.
